About the sessions

During the first few sessions, we will begin working on building a strong therapeutic relationship by offering a safe, confidential space. This will also help to build trust between us. It is recommended that clients initially aim for weekly or fortnightly sessions, which provides enough time in between to process the key points from the therapy and maintain the therapeutic processing.

I offer both long and short term sessions. Some clients may find a few weeks is enough, others may need further support lasting months or years. Long-term sessions can be useful for clients with ongoing problems or more complex needs. Short-term sessions are aimed for clients looking for quick results with structured sessions. The number of sessions you may need can be discussed at the beginning of our sessions together. This may change depending on progress throughout your therapy.

How I work

I am a qualified integrative counsellor. All that means is that I'm trained in lots of different counselling approaches and techniques. Being an integrative counsellor means I am able to offer a broader range of support and can tailor sessions to the individual client.

I like to work with what the client brings each session instead of 'planning' sessions based on what was spoken about last time. This gives you the opportunity to be in control of your own support and talk through what you need at a pace that is beneficial to you.

The main approach I use in sessions is Person Centred Therapy. This mode of counselling was developed by Carl Rogers, and is a non-directive, humanistic approach. Rogers believed that we are the experts of our own existence and therefore empowered clients to foster their own personal growth, self acceptance and become their true, authentic selves. I resonate with Rogers beliefs and aim to follow these and his core conditions in every session, with every client; to remain congruent throughout, offer unconditional positive regard and to be empathetic.

I understand that some people may find it difficult to verbally communicate how they are feeling. I offer alternative ways of communication through creative forms such as drawing, writing or through movement like dance.

Below are some of the approaches I am trained in and may use in our sessions. Each modality has different techniques involved that we can use during sessions, or if you feel comfortable, can try yourself!
