How I work

Being an "integrative" counsellor means I am trained in various forms of counselling and use a range of techniques in my sessions. The most commonly known form of counselling is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT, this is one of the practices I can use in our sessions. Other forms of counselling I use are Person - Centred Therapy and Creative Counselling.
I mainly work in a "humanistic" way which simply means I aim to support you, the client, in a non-judgemental, empathetic way and empower you to find your own way whilst holding the space to do that. I aim to work in a collaborative way, giving you the tools to navigate through life whilst having conversations about the work and finding the best way to support you.
Some people may find it difficult to verbally communicate how they are feeling, I offer alternative ways to explore emotions and behaviour through creative forms such as drawing, writing, musically or through movement like dance.
About the sessions
During the first few sessions, we will begin working on building a strong therapeutic relationship by offering a safe, confidential space. This will also help to build trust between us. It is recommended that clients initially aim for weekly or fortnightly sessions, which provides enough time in between to process the key points from the therapy and maintain the therapeutic processing.
I offer both long and short term sessions. Some clients may find a few weeks is enough, others may need further support lasting months or years. Long-term sessions can be useful for clients with ongoing problems or more complex needs. Short-term sessions are aimed for clients looking for quick results with structured sessions. The number of sessions you may need can be discussed at the beginning of our sessions together. This may change depending on progress throughout your therapy.
